Howard "Butch" Wright, vice president of operations at Huffman-Wright Timber, stands on the edge of a recent clear-cut by the company. The operation is able to cut approximately 1 acre per day. "It gets in your blood," Wright said of logging. The family company has been in business for 61 years and encompasses four generations.

Elizabeth Roberts, of Bandon, and Sam Schwarz, of Coos Bay, head back to the Department of State Lands building after marching with fellow protestors to the State Capitol Building following a state land board meeting concerning the sale of the Elliott State Forest on Tuesday, October 12. Twenty people from Coos Bay rode a bus to the meeting in Salem, leaving town at 5:30 a.m. to attend and make their voices heard.
